dated for 1854, with tapering round iron rebrowned 10 3/4in. barrel, octagonal form breech, the left upper flat stamped with the date and serial number and also '2D.R.6E.34.', plain bevel-edged lock of flint form with radiused tail and stamped below the snail with a crown over 'R', 'MD-1848' and '1854-80' (traces of colour), large distinctive ring-hammer, beech half-stock with full-length iron back-strap, brass butt-cap and trigger guard bow and iron nose-cap with no provision for ramrod
