A SCARCE .577/.500 NO.2 BLACK POWDER EXPRESS 1875 PATENT PUSH-FORWARD UNDERLEVER SELF-COCKING DOUBLE HAMMER RIFLE, serial no. 14971,
circa 1877, 'serial number' on under rib only, 28in. black powder only bold damascus barrels with raised file cut rib, open sights with folding leaf sight white metal-inlaid sight lines and marked for 150 and 250 yards, bead foresight. The tubes engraved 'R.B. RODDA & CO. GUN MAKERS BY APPOINTMENT TO H.E. THE VICEROY & H.R.H. THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH. LONDON & CALCUTTA', Henry patent rifling, patent no. 2802 of 15th November 1860, Adams & Tait use numbers 2878 and 2879, treble-grip action incorporating Edwin Hughes 'hand lever' self-half and full cocking action, patent no. 1290 of 9th April 1875, carved percussion fences, large strikers, the action flats marked 'J.P. Patent' in a diamond and with use number 1272, border and acanthus scroll engraving, the underside with 'THE WEBLEY-LANG PATENT SELF COCKER', retaining very slight traces of colour-hardening, 14 3/8in. pistolgrip stock with engraved steel pistolgrip-cap, sling eyes and steel buttplate, the fore-end with grip-catch release lever, weight 9lb. 9oz., in a brass-cornered leather bound and oak-lined case with some associated reloading accessories
