A .41 (RIMFIRE) COLT No.3 THUER PATENT DERRINGER WITH LATER DELUXE ENGRAVING AND STERLING-SILVER ORNAMENTED CASE, serial no. 12149,
circa 1880, with 'in the white' 2 1/2in. barrel signed '-COLT-' and engraved with large panels of quality foliate engraving in the correct period style extending to the muzzle and bordering the signature, applied shallow crescent fore-sight, fully scroll engraved frame and backstrap, the front of frame signed 'MR B. ELLIS' in script, reblued spur trigger, hammer and screws, two piece walnut birdshead grips, in a later fitted case constructed of mixed hardwoods and mounted with a large sterling silver engraved and hallmarked plaque measuring 6in. x 3in. marked 'COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MANUFACTURING CO. 14 PALL MALL S.W. LONDON' and bordered with depictions of the derringer and of Colt's trademark along with 'SAMUEL COLT 1870 THUER' and 'THIRD MODEL 41 DERRINGER', further hallmarked rectangular lock escutcheon engraved with Colt's armourial, the interior with reproduction trade-label and lined in the continental fashion in green leather with a further scroll engraved and addressed hallmarked plate containing ten inert rounds, the tray lifting to reveal a number of facsimile Colt adverts, some pasted to a detachable wooden support block, the underside of tray with a period cartoon, all silver plaques hallmarked for London 2014 and maker marked 'G.W.'
