A SWEPT-HILT RAPIER OF THE LATE 16TH CENTURY,
probably Italian circa 1580, with 41 1/4in. blade of flattened-diamond cross-section (tip slightly out of true), the first 9in. of both sides with a deeply carved narrow fuller with traces of a signature, pierced and carved swept-hilt with integral cross-guard terminating in a tri-lobed finial, large single sided pas d'ane, integral 'D' shaped moulded knucklebow joining the sweep of the hilt, moulded bulbous pommel and wire bound grip over a plaited moulding
