A RARE .22 WEBLEY & SCOTT TRACKER SIDE-LEVER AIR-RIFLE WITH BLACK-FINISHED STOCK, serial no. 41272,
believed produced in 1992 and unofficially named 'The Stealth', with blued 11 3/4in. barrel, built-on ribbed muzzle-weight, tap action breech (the usual 'Webley' nameplate absent, possibly removed), blued air-chamber marked 'WEBLEY TRACKER' to the left side and with manual safety catch, blued side-lever to the right with a fair amount of the safety warning decal remaining and unchequered wood three-quarter stock factory finished in black with rubber heel-plate and plastic grip-cap with white line spacer, generally collector's external condition and fitted with a Nikko Sterling 3-9x40 telescopic sight in a one-piece mount
Provenance: The Webley Tracker was launched alongside its sister rifle, The Viscount, in August 1982. Initially only available with a plain beech stock, by 1984 it was offered with a deluxe chequered walnut stock, similar to that already available as an option on the Viscount. In 1987, Webley offered a third type of stock, basically the standard beech stock but factory finished in a black and green camouflage pattern and known as the 'Tracker Camo'. This finish was discontinued in 1992 and it is believed that the all black examples as the model presented here, were offered as a limited edition at the end of production. The famous Wallis & Wallis sale of the Webley air-rifle collection in 2006 had a number of differing examples of the Tracker, including standard, deluxe, Tyrolean and camouflage stocks but none in all black. However, a number of similar rifles with the all black stock are known to exist in various collections
