Product Details

A BRONZE 'MARS OF TODI' STATUE ON A WOODEN BASE,
hollow formed bronze, depicting a warrior wearing lamellar plate armour with crested helmet and short tunic, in the same contrapposto pose as the original 'MARS OF TODI' statue, on plain black wooden base, measuring approx. 11in. x 28in. x 10in. including base

Other Notes: The "Mars of Todi" is a near life-sized bronze warrior, dating from the late 5th or early 4th century BC, believed to have been produced in Etruria for the Umbrian tribe. It was found near Todi (ancient Tuder), on the slope of Montesanto, in the property of the Franciscan Convent of Montesanto. It was likely an expensive votive offering placed at a religious sanctuary, possibly to Laran, the Etruscan God of War.
The original sculpture is currently held by the Museo Etrusco Gregoriano section of the Vatican Museums
