Provenance: On 24th December 1899, after it became clear that more mounted troops would be required to serve in the Second Boer War, a Royal Warrant was issued creating the Imperial Yeomanry. This Royal Warrant requested each standing Yeomanry regiment to provide a service company of some 115 men for one year. The Montgomeryshire Yeomanry was able to raise two companies, both of which landed in South Africa on 6th April 1900 and were assigned to the 9th (Welsh) Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry
