A 12-BORE SINGLE-TRIGGER EASY-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 4563,
for 1897, 30in. replacement nitro chopperlump barrels (by the makers circa 1935, barrel number 8323), the rib gold-inlaid '1' at the breech end, rib inscription rubbed, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, wall thicknesses at 19 and 18, toplever gold-inlaid '1', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, rolled-edge triggerguard, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, the action bar with 'BOSS'S PATENT' to the sides, the underside with improved single trigger patent details, retaining very slight traces of colour-hardening, 14 5/8in. replacement stock with cheekpiece insert, fore-end with missing insert repair to leading left edge, weight 6lb. 10oz.
Provenance: The makers records state that the gun was ordered on April 24th 1899 as one of 'a pair of 12-bore snap h'less ejector guns', serial numbers 4563 /4 for a C.K. Philips Esq.
