circa 1874, 30in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels (in 1987), the rib engraved 'SAMl. ALLPORT, 50 WHITTALL ST. BIRMINGHAM.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, some pits, S.B. Allport patent barrel locking action, patent no. 3518 of 1872, carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks with dolphin hammers, fine acanthus scroll engraving with ornate bordering and game scenes of grouse and pheasant, the triggerguard with a hound, 14 3/8in. boldly-figured stock with engraved steel heel and toe-plates, 9 1/2in. fore-end with Deeley & Edge patent release, weight 6lb. 12oz., in a relined leather bound oak case, with a Bartram 'Nimrod' 12-bore roll turnover tool, the lid outer with central circular brass escutcheon engraved 'G.M. WINGATE ROYAL ARTILLERY'
